A man aged 31 years died after the wall of a mine collapsed at a sand mining site in Gwikonge village, Kuria West sub-county, Migori County.
Kuria West sub-county police commander Mr.Cleti Kimaiyo said the deceased identified as Daniel Wairimu Chacha aged 31 years was mining sand alongside his two brothers John Chacha and Samwel Chacha when the wall of the mine collapsed and the debris fell on him.
Mr. Kimaiyo said Daniel Wairimu(deceased) who was removed from the debris by the brothers in collaboration with members of the public sustained injuries and was rushed to Life Care Hospital in Migori County where he was pronounced dead while undergoing treatment.
He said the body of the deceased was then moved to Kuria West sub-county hospital mortuary pending autopsy and police investigations.
Meanwhile, the sub-county police commander has called on the miners to take personal precautions while doing their mining activities to avert such fatal accidents.
Kimaiyo said the miners should ensure that they have the right protective gear while doing their mining activities.
