An elderly man was shot dead and 10 houses were burnt in an attack in Marafa Mkunumbi and Poromoko areas, in Lamu West, Lamu County.

The victim, a 65-year-old man identified as John Thuo was dragged out of his house and shot dead in the head by the attackers.

In Poromoko, the heavily armed attackers set ablaze houses whose occupants had already fled. One of the houses torched, according to police, belonged to a national police reservist.

Police say they have started a manhunt for the attackers who also burnt a motorcycle, slaughtered chicken and goats and stole household goods.

Lamu has witnessed a series of attacks in recent months.
