The body of a man who was buried alive when a quarry he was digging caved in at Ngucue quarry in Murinduko ward, Kirinyaga County has been retrieved.

The body of Josphat Muchiri, aged 54, was retrieved last night by an excavator belonging to a Ngurubani trader after residents waited in vain for the county government of Kirinyaga to respond.

“At last, the body of Muchiri has been retrieved by Mr. Muchangi after residents, using hoes and spades, failed to find his body,” Paul Muna said.

Residents of Ngucue had spent over 24 hours looking for the body of the deceased after the quarry caved in on Tuesday night.

The deceased was in the company of two people who escaped unhurt after the incident.

The deceased’s body was taken to Kerugoya mortuary as burial arrangements continue at Kanjinji village.
