Mathare United coach Collins ‘Korea’ Omondi is confident they will survive FKF Premier League relegation by winning their remaining three matches of the season.

The ‘Slum Boys’ suffered a sixth straight defeat in the top-flight after losing 1-0 against KCB at Ruaraka grounds on Saturday.

Musa Masika scored the all-important goal for the Bankers to leave Mathare languishing second from the bottom of the 18-team table with 22 points from 31 matches.

Despite the defeat which was their 23rd of the campaign, Omondi is not giving up on fighting to stay up insisting the ‘Slum Boys’ will play in the top-flight next season.

“We still have three matches to play to end the season, and we must win all of them, we have to do the job because we still have a fighting chance to stay up, and I don’t want to give up yet,” said Omondi.

“My team has really improved and against KCB officiating worked against us, we had several calls which went against us and this is part of football.”

For KCB, the win pushed them to fifth on the log with 57 points from 31 matches and coach Zedekiah Otieno was elated with the outcome.

“It was not an easy game, playing against a Mathare side fighting relegation was tough but I am happy my boys finished the job well, all we needed was the maximum points,” said Otieno.

Meanwhile, Nzoia Sugar failed to close the gap between them and second-placed Gor Mahia after losing 1-0 against Kariobangi Sharks at Sudi Stadium. Keith Imbuli scored the goal that dented Nzoia’s chances of remaining in the title race as though they kept their third spot with 60 points from 31 matches. A win for the Sugarmillers against Sharks could have seen them move level on points with Gor Mahia and cut Tusker’s lead at the summit to one point.

Mathare will shift focus to their remaining matches – starting with an away game against Kakamega Homeboyz at Bukhungu Stadium on June 3.
