Popular content creator Mitchelle Joyce Akoth Oruko, known asMjaka Mfine, has shared a heartbreaking tribute following the death of her childhood best friend, describing the loss as one of the most difficult moments she has ever faced.
In an emotional message posted on her Instagram page on Monday, July 27, 2026, Mjaka reflected on the friendship they built over the years, saying she is still struggling to come to terms with his passing.
‘I wasn’t prepared for this goodbye’
Mjaka revealed that the two had been friends since Class Three and had remained close throughout their childhood and adult lives.
She admitted that accepting his death has been difficult because she always believed they had more time together. “Today is one of the hardest days of my life because I have to say goodbye to someone who has been part of my story for so many years,” she wrote.

Just yesterday, it felt like we had all the time in the world, and now I’m left trying to accept a goodbye I was never prepared for,” Mjaka added.
‘You were my brother by choice’
Looking back on their years together, Mjaka described her late friend as someone who became family rather than just a friend.
She said they shared countless memories while growing up and supported each other through different stages of life. “We’ve known each other since Class Three. We grew up together, laughed together, made countless memories together, and watched each other become the people we are today,” she said.
“You weren’t just my best friend. You were my brother by choice, my safe place, my biggest supporter, and one of the few people who truly understood me without me having to explain myself,” she added.
Memories she will always treasure
Mjaka also thanked her friend for the moments they shared, saying those memories would stay with her forever.
She expressed sadness that they would never create new memories together and said there were still many conversations, dreams and plans they had hoped to share. “Thank you for every laugh, every conversation, every silly moment, every piece of advice, every time you stood by my side, and every memory we created,” she wrote.
“I will carry those moments with me for the rest of my life. They have become treasures that no one can ever take away,” she added.
A painful farewell
As she concluded her tribute, Mjaka prayed that her friend had found peace and admitted she was not ready to let him go. “I pray that wherever you are now, you are at peace. I hope heaven welcomes you with the same warmth and love you showed everyone here on earth,” she wrote.
She ended the emotional message by thanking him for being part of every stage of her life. “Thank you for being my best friend for all these years. Thank you for growing up with me. Thank you for being part of my childhood, my teenage years and my life. Knowing you was one of the greatest blessings I’ve ever received,” she said.
Her tribute has since drawn messages of comfort from friends, fellow creators and followers, many of whom offered their condolences and wished her strength as she mourns the loss of someone she described as a lifelong friend.
