Samson Kavoi, 62, from Migadini in Mombasa County, is seeking help to raise Sh4 million for a kidney transplant in India.

Kavoi is battling end-stage renal failure, a condition that began in 1991 when he started experiencing excessive urination. Upon visiting the hospital, he was diagnosed with diabetes and high blood pressure.

Despite being put on treatment, his condition worsened, and he eventually stopped urinating altogether. Subsequent medical examinations revealed that he had a kidney problem.

“The doctors told me my kidneys could no longer function on their own and the only option is to start dialysis,” he said.

Kavoi’s dialysis treatment started in 2022 and he had to have it three times a week.
One session, which lasts for four hours, costs Sh9,600 and NHIF only caters for one session per week.

“This disease is a big challenge to me and my family because I was the bread winner but now I cannot do anything,” he said.
“I go for sessions on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and after the hospital visits, I cannot do anything but sleep.”

Kavoi tried hemodialysis, a treatment to filter wastes and water from your blood, as your kidneys did when they were healthy, but it failed.
Doctors tried to do the procedure four times to no success because his veins were not accessible.
This forced the doctors to give him a catheter to clean his blood.

“The catheter poses a big risk big health risk because it is connected to my heart and in case of an infection, I may develop a heart problem. That is why it was not preferred by the doctors,” Kavoi said.

“Dialysis cannot give me the full recovery I need, it only helps me to continue living. I have been undergoing the procedure for three years with hopes of my kidneys will work one day in vain. That is why the doctors advised me to look for an alternative which is a kidney transplant.”

The dialysis treatment has weakened Kavoi’s body since it removes important nutrients from the body.

“I have a friend who went through the process and now he is okay. I wish to be healed like him. I plead will all the well wishers to help me raise the money to save my life,” he said.

“Please help me get out of this situation. I money for treatment because I have children and a family to take care of.”
His daughter, who is a match, has already undergone the necessary medical tests.

John Osiemo, a friend to Kavoi urged well- wishers to help save his friend.

“Kavoi used to go for treatment silently, we didn’t know what was happening but when he started going for dialysis, his health started to deteriorate. He sought assistance from church where we fellowship together. He really needs an urgent treatment” he said.
