Moses Wachira Kariuki, a 20-year-old Commercial Pilot Trainee at the Kenya School of Flying, has been identified as the second person who perished alongside flight instructor Alex Oluka in a tragic aircraft accident in the Kajiado area on September 18, 2026.
When was Moses Wachira Kariuki born?
The young aviator, born on June 5, 2006, had barely begun his aviation career when his life was cut short.
His death has left a community in Murang’a County devastated, with family and friends gathering daily at the family home in Wahundura Village, Mathioya Sub-County, to mourn and finalise burial arrangements.
Moses was the son of Hezron Kariuki Thiong’o, a former Kenya Revenue Authority officer based in Embu, and Leah Muthoni Kariuki.
Where did Moses Wachira Kariuki grew up?
He grew up in Wahundura Village and harboured a passion for aviation that led him to enrol at the Kenya School of Flying as a Commercial Pilot Trainee.
He is survived by his parents, four siblings — Grace Waigumo, Zennus Mwendwa, Brian Thiong’o and Fraciah Wairimu Thiong’o — as well as four nieces and nephews.
His death follows that of Alex Oluka, whose mother has since spoken about her son’s final plea before the crash.

Oluka, who was set to graduate within weeks of the accident, had been described by those who knew him as a dedicated and humble young man.
His heartbroken father had earlier shared the plans his son had for his future, a future that was abruptly taken away.
The burial programme for Moses begins on the morning of Friday, September 25, 2026. The body is scheduled to be collected from Montezuma Funeral Home in Kabati at 7:30 a.m., after which a funeral service will be held at ACK St. Paul’s Kirungu.

The cortege will then proceed to the family farm in Wahundura Village for interment.
