Tragedy struck on Thursday night near Itoloni area, 2 kilometers from Kangundo town along the Kangundo-Mwala Road, where a mother and her daughter traveling on a boda boda were killed instantly after being struck by a lorry. The incident occurred as both vehicles were heading towards Mwala, with the boda boda rider fortunately escaping unharmed.

The deceased woman and her daughter were on their way to Kangundo High School, where they resided due to the husband’s employment as a teacher there. The husband was traveling behind them on another boda boda.

Alexander Kilonzo, a bodaboda rider, expressed frustration over the lack of respect shown to them by many road users. He criticized leaders for neglecting road maintenance, which he believed contributed to such accidents. Kilonzo also lamented the slow response from authorities, noting that despite the proximity to Kangundo police station, it took over an hour for them to arrive at the scene.

Dennis Zakayo, another rider, echoed these concerns, citing the poor state of the roads and ongoing accidents. He emphasized the husband’s anguish as he witnessed the tragic incident involving his wife and daughter.

Residents, including Lukhungu Matolo, expressed sorrow over the loss and called on leaders to prioritize road repairs and safety measures. Carlmax Ombasa, a teacher at Kangundo High School, also mourned the loss of his colleague’s family members and urged authorities to take action to prevent future tragedies.

Police from Kangundo responded swiftly to the scene and transported the bodies to Patjud funeral home, as the lorry driver fled before an angry crowd attempted to set the vehicle on fire.
