A motorist accused of assaulting a police officer was on Thursday, June 29, 2023, charged at a Nairobi Chief Magistrates Court.

Alex Muthee Mwangi appeared before Milimani Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina and denied the assaulting Police Constable Alphayo Baraza while controlling traffic along Muindi Mbingu street in Nairobi.

“Alex Muthee Mwangi you are charged that on June 27, 2023 along Muindi Mbingu street in Nairobi willfully and unlawfully assaulted PC Alphayo Baraza who was at the time of the said assault acting in due execution of his duties as a police officer,” the charge sheet reads in part.

Motorist pleads for lenient bail terms

After denying the charge, Muthee sought to be released on reasonable bail terms saying he would abide by all conditions set by the court.

State prosecutor Anderson Gikunda did not oppose to Muthee being released on bond terms pending trial.

Magistrate Onyina ordered the release of the accused person on a cash bail of Ksh30,000.
