Pressure to have Inspector General of Police Douglus Kanja to resign has continued to mount as leaders expressed their dissatisfaction in how he has handled increased cases of abductions.

Laikipia North Member of Parliament Sarah Korere and her Kilgoris counterpart Julius Sunkuli have accused the government of failing to address the rising cases of abductions in the country.

“I appeal to IG Kanja that if someone has broken the law, they should be arrested and charged in court. There is no justice in taking someone’s child, without clarity on whether they are dead or alive,” said Korere.

“He has to come out and tell us what is happening. He can not say he does not know. If he is not aware, he should resign,” added the Laikipia North legislator.

On his part, Sunkuli faulted the police in failing to clear the air on abduction cases yet it is within their mandate.

The leaders also pointed an accusing finger on the IG and the Director General of the National Intelligence Service (NIS) Noordin Haji for negligence and failure to tackle the glaring menace.

They said they should expose those behind the abductions and either produce the victims alive or dead.

The legislators noted that suspects should be produced in court and prosecuted for whatever offences they have committed other than holding them incommunicado.

The MPs spoke at Sosian Ward during a ceremony to commission a modern administration block for the Amani Sosian High school in Laikipia North.

The leaders, flanked by former National Assembly Speaker Francis Ole Kaparo at the same time called for unity of purpose by elected leaders amid rising political temperatures ahead of the 2027 General Elections.

They observed that it was time to deliver services to the people and not time to seek political realignment for selfish gains.

They underscored the need to support the government in delivering service to Kenyans.

They accused a section of political leaders attempting to divide Kenyans along tribal lines saying this would not augur well with the peace that the country has enjoyed over the years.
