An 86-year-old woman was allegedly attacked and killed inside her home in Loresho, Nairobi, on Friday evening, with police now holding six people of interest as investigations unfold.
Gigiri Police have opened a probe into the circumstances surrounding the death of Dorita Macharia, whose body was discovered with visible injuries at her residence.
Two of the six suspects in custody are reported to be close relatives of the deceased, and the group is expected to appear before a court on Monday.
What Dorita Macharia’s Lawyer Found at the Scene
The deceased’s lawyer was among those who entered the house after the incident and described a disturbing scene.
“I do wish to confirm that a client of mine, Mrs Dorita Macharia, had her life cut short on Friday evening. We were able to go into the house and found the body there. She had injuries. There was quite a bit of blood on the premises. All we can say is that it didn’t look natural,” the lawyer said.
The lawyer further revealed that one of Macharia’s sons was apprehended at the property during the initial response.
“I am also aware that one of her sons is currently in custody because he was found within the premises,” the lawyer added.

News of the killing drew an outpouring of disbelief and anger from Kenyans online, with many pointing to greed as a likely motive.

Investigations remain ongoing, and police have yet to formally charge any of the six individuals in custody.
