The Nairobi Hospital Admitting Staff Association has announced a strike starting Monday, September 16, 2024, demanding the resignation of the board of directors.

In their notice, the Kenya Hospital Association stated that they will stand in solidarity with the hospital’s doctors until the alleged crisis at the facility is resolved. They noted that no new admissions will be accepted after the strike begins, and medical attention will only be provided to patients already admitted.

“The general public is notified that there will be no more new admissions at Nairobi Hospital. Doctors will only attend to patients currently in the wards, their private clinics, and emergency cases only,” the notice read in part.

The Association also urged the public to support the doctors’ strike ahead of an Extraordinary General Meeting scheduled for September 18, 2024.

This action follows allegations of corruption and poor governance linked to the Nairobi Hospital. The Kenya Hospital Association has claimed that the institution is plagued by conflicts of interest, cronyism, and nepotism.

In response, the hospital described these accusations as “choreographed out of frustration by individuals who have failed to manipulate our sound governance structures for their own selfish gain, and have now resorted to a smear campaign against the Hospital.”

The hospital’s board of management has challenged those making the allegations to provide evidence and promised to take action against any wrongdoers.
