Around 4,000 households in Tinderet Constituency stand to benefit from a new electricity project after President William Ruto launched the KSh55 million Tinderet Last Mile Electricity Connectivity Project during a development tour of Nandi County.

The Tinderet project sits within a much larger KSh2.1 billion electricity programme designed to bring power to 23,000 households spread across Nandi County. The Last Mile Connectivity Programme is meant to push electricity access deeper into underserved communities, creating conditions for households to improve their livelihoods and for businesses to grow.

Roads and Regional Connectivity

Beyond electricity, President Ruto broke ground for the Labuiywo-Kitechegaa/Kapkoros-Koisagat road, a 17-kilometre stretch budgeted at KSh1.3 billion. Once complete, the road will extend to Nandi Hills and create a link with Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet and West Pokot counties, opening up regional trade and movement of goods. The President also inspected the 24-kilometre Maraba-Kebeneti and Timboroa-Kopere roads within the same constituency.

Across the border in Uasin Gishu County, the government is channelling KSh35 billion into 14 road projects covering 400 kilometres. Three roads were commissioned during the tour: the Soy-Serekea-Kilimani-Turbo route, the Nangili-Ziwa Machine-Ziwa Sirikwa road, and the Ziwa Sirikwa-Kerotet-Maji Mazuri-Moi’s Bridge stretch. The projects are expected to cut transport costs and make it easier for farmers to move agricultural produce to markets.

Housing and Healthcare Investments

Nandi County is also seeing significant investment outside roads and power. A KSh18 billion commitment under the Affordable Housing Programme is set to deliver 3,500 housing units alongside hostels for 6,000 students and 15 modern markets across the region.

At Meteitei Sub-County Hospital in Tinderet, construction of a KSh270 million inpatient block will add 50 new beds, lifting the facility’s total capacity from 66 to 116 beds. The expanded hospital is expected to serve approximately 350,000 residents drawn from Tinderet, Londiani and Muhoroni, with the project scheduled for completion before the end of the year.

Taken together, the electricity connections, new roads, affordable housing units and expanded healthcare capacity represent a wide-ranging infrastructure push across Nandi County and neighbouring Uasin Gishu, targeting communities that have long waited for improved services.
