A video of Wicknell Chivayo’s ex-wife Sonja Louise Madzikanda addressing his late wife Lucy about a private jet the tycoon once owned has circulated widely on social media in the days since his death.
Chivayo, his wife Lucy and three other people perished on September 30 when the helicopter they were travelling in crashed, killing everyone on board.
Whilst his two pilots and Lucy’s personal aide have since been buried, the tycoon and his wife were yet to be laid to rest as preparations for their send-off continued.
As Zimbabweans and Kenyans mourned, old videos and photographs from the businessman’s life began resurfacing online, offering glimpses into his extravagant lifestyle, his properties and his personal relationships.
Sonja’s Claims About the Private Jet
Among the clips that gained fresh attention was one featuring Sonja, who held a traditional wedding with Chivayo in 2017 before their divorce seven years later. Chivayo subsequently married Lucy, whom he was frequently photographed with as the couple lived openly lavish lives.
In the resurfaced footage, Sonja appeared to be speaking directly to Lucy, asserting that the private jet associated with the businessman’s name was not acquired for his second wife.
“Yes, Lulu I hate to say it but that private jet was not bought for you, it was bought in the company of Wicknell directors and me. Then he went and rebranded it and changed it into your name in November when I sent him divorce papers,” she said in the clip.
Sonja also indicated at the time that she had more to say on the matter, issuing a challenge to both Lucy and Chivayo to respond as they saw fit.

The video drew a mixture of sympathy, reflection and calls for restraint from viewers, many of whom noted the painful irony of Sonja’s words given the tragic outcome.
