Former Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu has shifted her political allegiance from ODM leader Raila Odinga to Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, expressing disappointment with Raila’s collaboration with President William Ruto. Ngilu criticized Ruto for working with Raila, pointing out that in 2022, Ruto had accused former President Uhuru Kenyatta of destroying Kenya by partnering with Raila. She suggested it would not be unreasonable to claim Ruto is now doing the same by collaborating with Raila.

Ngilu declared her support for Kalonzo, urging that he be made the leader of the Azimio coalition, and expressed optimism about his chances in the 2027 presidential race. She emphasized the need for hard work and urged the Kamba community to register as voters, promising their support could secure two to three million votes for Kalonzo.

Ngilu, who has been a long-time ally of Raila, dating back to their joint efforts against the Kanu regime in 1992, spoke at a funeral in Kitui Rural, where she also encouraged Kalonzo’s supporters to prepare for the challenges ahead.
