Fortune Sacco head coach Vincent Nyaberi has revealed how his side utilized a free weekend to sharpen their readiness ahead of a crucial National Super League (NSL) encounter against Kisumu Allstars.
With no league fixture scheduled, the team opted for competitive friendly matches to maintain fitness levels and fine-tune their tactics.
Speaking to Citizen Digital, Nyaberi disclosed that Fortune Sacco faced Mwea United in their first build-up match, settling for a 2-2 draw in a closely contested affair.
They then took on FKF Premier League leaders Gor Mahia in their second friendly, where they fell 3-0, with the coach admitting his players were undone by their opponents’ superior experience.
“We used the friendlies to sharpen our edge ahead of the league resumption. It was an opportunity for players who have not be utilized to play.
“In Gor Mahia’s match, we lost due to minor mistakes, but we played well in general,” Nyaberi stated, reflecting on the lessons picked from the two matches.
The focus now shifts to their highly anticipated rematch against Kisumu Allstars. Fortune Sacco will be aiming to overturn their first-leg defeat suffered away from home earlier in the season.
Nyaberi underscored the importance of the upcoming clash, insisting his team must rise to the occasion and secure maximum points. He noted that the team has adopted a high-stakes mentality as the season progresses.
“To us every remaining game is a final, every team in the NSL is tough, but we need to win to close the gap,” he emphasized.
Fortune Sacco will host Kisumu Allstars on Sunday, April 19, in what promises to be a decisive encounter as they push to improve their standing in the league.
