US-based Kenyan registered nurse, digital content creator, and entrepreneur Judy Maina widely known as Nurse Judy has revealed that she is considering surrogacy in Kenya as she plans to have a third child, saying the option would be more affordable than pursuing the process in the United States.
Sharing her thoughts on Thursday, July 30, 2026, Nurse Judy disclosed that she has always dreamed of having four childrenand even tried to conceive last year, hoping she would be blessed with twins.
She explained that if she chooses to proceed with surrogacy, she would most likely do it in Kenya because of the cost involved abroad.
“I really want a 3rd baby. I always wanted 4 babies; last year I tried conceiving, and I actually was hoping for twins. I’m considering surrogacy. But I guess I will explore this option in Kenya because I know if I try it in America, it’s going to be hella expensive,” Nurse Judy wrote.
Appeal for help
Additionally, the digital content creator also appealed to her followers for information about the process, asking about the estimated costs and how surrogacy works in Kenya.
“Do you guys know the process on how to go about it in Kenya? Cost estimate? and mama anaeza katalia na mtoto, by the way,” she asked.
Surrogacy in Kenya
Her post comes at a time when Kenya is working towards establishing a clearer legal framework for assisted reproductive technologies, including surrogacy.
On Monday, March 16, 2026, the Senate Standing Committee on Health reviewed the Assisted Reproductive Technology Bill, 2022, which seeks to regulate assisted reproduction services and surrogacy arrangements in the country.
“The Senate Standing Committee on Health, chaired by Sen. Jackson Mandago (Uasin Gishu), today held a meeting with the Kenya Obstetrical and Gynaecological Society (KOGS), led by Kireki Omanwa, to deliberate on the Assisted Reproductive Technology Bill (National Assembly Bills No. 61 of 2022), sponsored by Hon. Millie Odhiambo,” Parliament stated.
According to Parliament, the proposed law aims to create clear standards for licensing and regulating assisted reproductive technology facilities while protecting the rights and welfare of intended parents, surrogate mothers, donors and children born through assisted reproductive technologies.
“The proposed legislation seeks to establish a comprehensive legal framework for the provision of assisted reproductive technology services in Kenya. It aims to regulate surrogacy arrangements, prohibit unethical practices, safeguard the rights and welfare of parents, surrogate mothers, donors, and children born through assisted reproductive technologies, and create an institutional framework for the licensing, regulation, and oversight of assisted reproductive technology facilities,” Parliament added.
