Stakeholders in Nyamira county have collaborated in a drive to plant indigenous trees in a bid to repair water bodies.
When marking International Day of Forests at Sironga Primary School in Manga sub-county on Tuesday, South Nyamira deputy commissioner Florence Obunga led stakeholders in planting 2,000 trees.
He was joined by chiefs, forest officials, students and teachers.
Obunga said there are plans to plant more than 12,000 trees in the school.
He urged chiefs to ensure that there are tree nurseries in each ward in collaboration with the forestry services in the country.
Counties marked the day of forests with different activities across the country.
