Content creator Obidan Dela has responded after the family of popular Kwa Mbae boy accused him of taking away suits bought for their father and disappearing with other belongings.

Dela dismissed the accusations, saying he had dedicated six months to helping the vulnerable family and mobilising financial support for Kwa Mbae’s brother, Lewis.

Speaking in a TikTok video on Saturday, October 17, the content creator maintained that his efforts had been driven by a desire to help the family through their difficult circumstances.

“Humans will never appreciate anything or be thankful. There is this small talk that I would like to address. And you remember this Kwa Mbae family, how they struggled, and they are still very vulnerable, and I will talk with respect. It is God who will pay me,” Dela said.

The content creator explained that he had put his other activities on hold for six months as he accompanied the family to different places in search of assistance.

He said their efforts included a major harambee that raised Ksh 3.9 million to support Lewis during his medical challenges. Dela further insisted that the money was deposited directly into an account belonging to Lewis’s parents rather than his personal account.

“So for the past six months, I stopped all my work to help them, and we used to move places everywhere seeking help, including one very big harambee, and we were able to raise also Ksh 3.9 million for them. And all the money went towards helping Kwa Mbae’s brother, Lewis, and it was sent to the parents’ account and not to my account. They had a bank account,” he said.

Dela also recounted his involvement in Lewis’s treatment, saying he remained present at the hospital until the young man was discharged.

He added that he helped the family arrange transport back home after the hospital stay, arguing that they would otherwise have been forced to rely on public transport.

The content creator cited these efforts as part of his explanation for why he was disappointed by the accusations surrounding the missing belongings.

“And after that, you were all seeing me in hospital with Lewis till he was discharged, and after that I helped them get a car to take them home, as they were to use public transport,” Dela said.

What Happened to the Family’s Suits

Addressing the specific claims concerning the suits bought for the family’s father, Dela denied taking the clothes and explained that the items were left behind in a vehicle after an event.

He said the family’s mother later informed him that she had forgotten some belongings, including items belonging to the father, after the vehicle had already travelled to Nairobi.

Dela maintained that he contacted the person who had taken the vehicle but admitted that he did not follow up to confirm whether the items were returned.

“I never took their father’s suit. We are not even the same height. He is short; I cannot fit in that suit. So what happened is that the day of the event, later on, the mum said she had forgotten stuff in the car, including their father’s items. But the car had already gone to Nairobi, and I called the person, and he said he would return them, but I never followed up,” he said.

Don’t use my name

Dela expressed frustration over the accusations, arguing that the assistance he had provided to the family should be considered alongside the dispute over the missing items.

He maintained that the family remained vulnerable and said he would continue speaking about their circumstances respectfully despite the disagreement. He also suggested that the family should not invoke his name when seeking sympathy or assistance from the public.

“So if the family is seeking sympathy to get help, let them not use my name,” Dela said.
