Two-time world 5000m champion Hellen Obiri has been added to the women’s field for the Boston Marathon slated for April 17.
Obiri will be competing in a full marathon for only the second time in her career after placing sixth on her debut at the New York City Marathon last year.
It will be Obiri’s third race this year having already competed and won at the Ras Al Khaimah Half Marathon last month and recently at the New York City Half Marathon just over a week ago.
“If I get a faster course I can do very well since I have been training so well. We have agreed with my coach that if I get another marathon, I will do it again,” Obiri said after winning the New York City Half Marathon in a new course record on March 19.
Obiri joins a stellar field that also has Kenyan athletes including; two-time winner Edna Kiplagat, New York City Marathon champion Sharon Lokedi and the 2021 London Marathon champion Joyciline Jepkosgei.
Others are Mary Ngugi who placed third in last year’s race, Sheila Chepkirui, Angela Tanui, Celestine Chepchirchir, Fancy Chemutai and Maurine Chepkemoi.
