Speaking during Citizen TV’s Daybreak on Thursday, Nyamita dismissed claims by some opposition leaders that the election was a reflection of what awaits President William Ruto.
“I dont think this election has any bearing on the presidency because the president was not on the ballot. To say that now that the opposition now want to get excited and begin to ooh you know it has shown that you can remove a sitting president. There was no sitting candidate in that by-election to indicate that someone was there and is trying to defend their seat and now they defeated that person” he said.
The lawmaker described the opposition as “a batch of people collected together by hate for one individual”, citing their failure to present a single candidate from the various political factions that participated in the by-elections.
Additionally, Nyamita noted that since the 2022 election, the Independent electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has delivered credible results for all by-elections countrywide enhancing public trust that was once lost.
Samuel Muchina of United Democratic Alliance Party (UDA) got 5,450 votes in the July 17 by-election, losing to Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) candidate Sammy Kamau Ngotho, who secured 35,440 votes.
The Uriri member of Parliament joins leaders including the Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Human Capital Development and Special Programmes Geofrey Ruku who have defended Ruto’s regime from backlash following the Ol Kalou elections.
Nyamita observed that regions such as parts of Mount Kenya West have already aligned with the opposition urging those with political aspirations to analyse and understand the language of the common person they seek to represent.
