A video of Pastor T Mwangi discussing the revolutionary spirit of Generation Z has surfaced, just a day after many young people took to the streets to protest against the Finance Bill 2024.

In the video, the controversial pastor delves into the unique characteristics and motivations of this dynamic generation.

“This generation is not a generation of fools,” Pastor Mwangi asserts.

“They know when you are lying to them. This is a revolutionary generation. These ones, if they decide to vote in 2027, with their thinking, hawa lazima tuwapende. They can meet and decide that the problem of this country is old leaders.”

The Life Church International founder, emphasises the radical and authentic nature of Gen Z, highlighting their willingness to challenge established systems and norms.

“They have radical thinking. They are revolutionary, they are trying to challenge the system and how things have been done,” he says.

“They have changed hotel systems; they now go to Airbnbs. They are authentic, real, and comfortable. There is nothing they are hiding. Their hair is natural, they don’t do make-up; they are real. They love people who are truthful and people who are themselves.”

The pastor’s comments come at a time when the youth of Kenya are increasingly vocal about their dissatisfaction with the current leadership and economic policies.

The recent protests against the Finance Bill 2024 saw a significant turnout of young people, reinforcing Pastor Mwangi’s observations about their willingness to engage in activism and demand change.

Pastor Mwangi also touched on the generational divide and the authenticity that Gen Z values.

“If you are old, they respect you that way. That is why they see you doing TikTok challenges and they look at you and wonder why you can’t act yourself,” he said.

As Kenya navigates through a period of political and economic uncertainty, the influence of Gen Z is becoming more apparent.

Their ability to mobilise themselves, coupled with their demand for honesty and authenticity, suggests that they will play a crucial role in shaping the country’s future.
