32 suspected Ethiopian aliens were on Monday arrested by police in Kajiado for getting into the country illegally.
Police say they made the arrests after a tip-off from members of the public. They said that the suspects were hiding at a house near a quarry in Kiwanja Ndege, Loitoktok.
Loitokitok police commander Kiprop Ruto noted that the suspects were aged between 18 and 28.
Police suspect that the suspects were heading to South Africa. They claimed that they suspected that the aliens were planning to cross into Tanzania using the Kenya-Tanzania border.
A woman was also arrested during the crackdown. Police believe she was part of a syndicate helping foreigners sneak into the country illegally.
Jordanians arrested
The latest comes barely months after 40 Jordanian nationals were arrested for begging in Mombasa.
The tourists who include 19 adults and 21 children with the youngest being 4 months old, were arrested and booked at the central police station for contravening tourist visa regulations.
Mombasa county police commander, Stephen Matu said that investigations conducted revealed that they (foreigners) resorted to begging in search of money to travel to Nairobi after they became broke.
“It’s quite unfortunate that they ran out of funds and we’re unable to sustain their lifestyle as tourists, they resorted to begging for food and money for transport back to Nairobi. Following negotiations with their embassy officials we have agreed to deport them back,” he said.
The foreigners were repatriated back to their country.
“They are being escorted by security agencies alongside immigration officials up to Moi international airport Nairobi, where they will board their flight back to Jordan,” Matu added.
