A police officer attached to the Mandera Border Patrol Unit was on Wednesday night knocked down at Sotik area on the Bomet – Kisii highway.
According to Bomet County Police Commandant Mathews Mangira, the officer was riding a motorcycle before he was rammed from behind by an unidentified vehicle.
Members of the public who witnessed the incident said the officer, who was riding alone at the time of the incident, sustained serious injuries in the head and chest and succumbed on the spot.
The Bomet police boss added that it has not yet been established whether the officer was off duty at the time or not.
Traffic officers attached to Sotik Police Station towed the badly damaged motorcycle to the station and recorded statements from members of the public.
Mr. Mangira, at the same time, said an investigation has since been launched to trace the vehicle involved in the incident.
The body of the deceased was taken to the Kapkatet hospital mortuary.
