Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree extending the food embargo on agricultural products from Western countries for two years, from January 1, 2025, to December 31, 2026. This is the first time the embargo, which was originally introduced in 2014, has been extended for a two-year period rather than the usual one-year term.

The embargo, implemented in response to Western sanctions, has been in effect since August 7, 2014. It targets products from the US, the EU, Australia, Norway, and Canada, and was later expanded to include other European countries and Ukraine.
