Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition party chief Raila Odinga has claimed that there is a scheme by Kenya Kwanza leaders to infiltrate next week’s planned demonstrations and attack and even kill protesters.

Addressing a press conference at his Capitol Hill office in Nairobi on Thursday, Mr Odinga accused Deputy President Rigathi Gichagua of allegedly organising some youth to infiltrate the Azimio protest with the intention of causing chaos.

“The meeting was to mobilize youths to be given uniforms similar to Azimio’s Movement for Defense for Democracy. The youths according to that meeting are to be armed to kill at least 1,000 people and thereafter file charges against Azimio leaders at the ICC,” he said.

Former Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa said: “We have notified Nairobi Police Commander Adamson Bungei, and he has no excuse to provide security next week on Monday and Thursday. The police’s role is to provide security.”

Mr Odinga also dismissed claims by Kenya Kwanza leaders that he is seeking a handshake with President William Ruto.

“Kenya Kwanza’s stance that we are looking for a handshake is an insult to Kenyans. We cannot have a handshake with an illegitimate government,” he stated.

The former premier likewise responded to calls for dialogue by various religious leaders, saying the demonstrations by Azimio are well within the bounds of the scriptures.

“Our answer to the clergy is in the Gospel, I want to quote John 8:32 – ‘Then you will know the truth and the truth will set you free,’” said Mr Odinga.

Elsewhere, Azimio Minority leaders in Parliament Stewart Madzayo (Senate), and Opiyo Wandayi (National Assembly) together with four other legislators including Malindi MP Amina Mnyanzi and Kilifi South MP Richard Chomba appeared before the Kahawa Law Courts and were freed on Ksh.50,000 cash bail each after pleading not guilty to unlawful assembly and damage of property during Azimio’s Monday demos.
