Rapper Nicki Minaj has emerged as a surprise name for the White House press secretary position after two officials suggested her for the role following the departure of Katie Zacharia.
The development was reported on Sunday, October 25, 2026, after White House Communications Director Steven Cheung and Trump adviser Alex Bruesewitz floated Minaj’s name on social media.
Cheung shared a video of the rapper praising US President Donald Trump’s international policies while aboard Air Force One.
“Ladies and gentlemen, I think we may have found the new White House Press Secretary!” Cheung wrote on X, tagging Minaj.
The White House’s official account responded with an eyes emoji, while Bruesewitz joined the conversation by asking the rapper’s fans, known as the Barbz, what they thought of the idea.
“Hey Barbz, what do we think about this idea?” he wrote.
Minaj also reacted to the suggestion, sharing an American flag and a grinning face with sweat emojis on X. However, neither the rapper nor the White House confirmed that she was being formally considered for the position.

The comments came after Zacharia’s brief tenure as White House press secretary ended following just five days in the role.
Zacharia was removed from the position on Friday, October 16, following a rocky start marked by criticism of her first press briefing and questions about her professional credentials.
Zacharia faced scrutiny after describing herself as a lawyer despite not having passed the California bar exam. She defended her use of the title, saying it related to her legal analysis work and experience in China.
Trump had also publicly suggested that she reconsider the position, saying she had been treated unfairly by the media.
Her departure prompted questions about who would take over the high-profile communications role.
Minaj shares Air Force One experience
While the suggestion attracted attention online, Minaj appeared more focused on her experience aboard Air Force One.
The rapper shared a video showing the aircraft’s spacious interior, expressing amazement as she filmed the cabin.
Minaj was also scheduled to appear alongside Trump at an event in Port Huron, Michigan, on Sunday, October 25.
For now, the suggestion that she could become the next White House press secretary remains informal, with no announcement confirming her appointment or candidacy.
