Wayne Rooney is set to join Plymouth Argyle as their next manager.

Rooney will put pen to paper to paper on a three-year contract with the Championship club.

The 38-year-old has been out of work since he was sacked at Birmingham City.

Plymouth need a new manager after sacking Ian Foster after just three months in charge, following a run of eight losses in 11 games.

The Pilgrims did manage to rally after his departure and avoided relegation into League One.

Transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano, tweeted Friday night: “Plymouth Argyle are set to appoint Wayne Rooney as new head coach, deal done.

“Three year contract for Rooney to be signed over the weekend, as first called by @JPercyTelegraph.”
