Three women have been charged in Eldoret for their involvement in a horrific attack on another woman, aged 24. The suspects—Monicah Jeptum, Joyce Jerobon, and Caroline Jerotich—are accused of inserting pepper into the victim’s private parts as a form of punishment for allegedly having affairs with their husbands.
The women were charged with sexual assault and assault, as per the Sexual Offences Act of 2007. Upon appearing before Eldoret Senior Principal Magistrate Mogire Onkoba, they denied the charges. The court granted them bail, setting the amount at Sh100,000 each, and scheduled the next mention for November 4, 2024.
According to police reports, the attack occurred on October 1, 2024, at Kapseret market in Uasin Gishu County. It is alleged that the suspects cornered the victim while she was on her way to the local market and forcibly took her to one of their homes. Eyewitnesses recounted how the women tricked the victim into the house, where they stripped her naked and began the assault, branding her a “men’s snatcher.”
Witnesses reported hearing the victim’s cries for help and intervened, discovering her being tortured inside the house. In addition to the sexual assault, the victim sustained various injuries, including scars from her struggle to escape. Following her report to the police, the suspects were apprehended after thorough investigations.
The police have gathered statements from the victim and several witnesses, who are expected to testify during the upcoming hearings.
