During his visit to the county on Saturday, the President announced that his administration has allocated Sh500 million to connect over 7,000 households to electricity. Ruto stated that the power projects will benefit all constituencies under the last mile connectivity program, which had previously stalled but has now been revived.

“Tunataka kila nyumba ipate stima ndio kuwe na mwangaza na tuweze kufukuza shetani (We want each house to have power so that we can kick out the devil),” the President said.

He also mentioned that he has secured a loan from the Chinese government to fund the construction of the Mwea-Gichugu Road. Accompanied by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, members of his cabinet, and other Kenya Kwanza leaders, Ruto announced plans to upgrade the Muthithi-Kagio-Baricho-Gatuya Road, stating he would return to the county in about two months to launch the construction.

Additionally, the national government will build 11 new markets in Kirinyaga County at a cost of approximately Sh900 million. These markets will feature cold rooms to reduce waste for traders, WiFi, and nursing rooms for mothers with young children. “We want to ensure every Mama Mboga works in an environment that has water, toilets, and is hygienic,” he emphasized.

The President also confirmed that the affordable housing project being developed in Gichugu will be completed by December this year. He added that another 5,000 housing units will be constructed soon, with the procurement process currently underway. His goal is to ensure that locals benefit from jobs and affordable housing once the projects are finished.

Furthermore, he instructed MPs to establish digital hubs in all wards within the next four months to provide a platform for youth to access digital job opportunities. “We want those digital hubs established because we have already negotiated for digital jobs,” he told the residents of Kirinyaga.

Governor Anne Waiguru praised the President, noting that these projects will create employment opportunities for thousands of locals and boost the economy.
