President William Ruto on Tuesday spent his afternoon with children at Roysambu Primary School in Nairobi.

The President took his time and interacted with children who were taking their lunch break from classes.

A jovial Ruto interacted freely with the pupils, fist bumped with them as they queued to be served their meal.

The President, with the assistance of Education CS Ezekiel Machofu and Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, served the children their meal of beans, rice and cabbage.

He too took a plate and enjoyed the meal while interacting with the pupils.

While donning a dark blue apron, Ruto moved around and mingled with the children while having random chats with them.

The President was the chief guest at the launch of  Sakaja’s School Feeding Programme, Dishi na County.

The groundbreaking for the construction of central kitchens took place in 10 subcounties on Monday.

The construction is expected to take about 10 weeks with the first meal expected to be served on the first day of the third term of this year.

The subcounties include Dagoretti North, Embakasi Central, Embakasi South,  Kasarani, Kibra, Makadara, Starehe, Roysamu, Ruaraka, and Westlands subcounties.

President Ruto commended Sakaja for the project and urged counties to adopt it.

He promised that his government will build 30 more classrooms in Roysambu Primary School which hosts about 3,400 school children.

Ruto told Education CS Ezekiel Machogu to look for contractors who will do the classrooms.

“We are going to commit Sh25 million to build the 30 classrooms and they must be ready in the next 120 days. So look for a contractor to come and do that job,” Ruto said.

He said that the classrooms will reduce congestion in the school and allow the admission of more students.
