President William Ruto has said the government will shut down over 1,000 pay bills for government services.
The President unveiled one pay bill to be used for all government services. While speaking on Friday during the launch of Gava Mkononi, a mobile app version of the e-Citizen, Ruto said Kenyans should use 222222 to pay for all services.
He said the government will shut down all the other pay bills in the next 90 days.
The President said there is a problem with the many pay bills that are available and cannot be accounted for.
“Apart from making sure that there is no multiplicity of pay bills by government agencies. No citizen should be told to pay for the service using this pay bill. All Kenyans must know that if they have to pay for the government services it has to be 222222,” he said.
“The government expects that all services must go through the pay bill so that the treasury can have sight of every service that is paid for.”
He said Kenyans should not be duped to use other pay bills or mobile accounts.
Ruto said that the e-citizen platform contains over 5,000 government services.
He said the holder of the pay bill account will be the Ministry of Treasury.
Ruto unveiled e-Citizen Services, GavaMkononi App and Gava Express in his push for the digitisation of government services.
E-citizen which is set to be revamped has had the most popular services on the platform.
They include NTSA (Provisional Driving License), Business Registration Services, Police Clearance / Certificate of Good Conduct, Civil Registration Services (Marriage), Foreign Nationals Initial Registration, Directorate of Immigration Services, Kenya Ports Authority, Kenya Revenue Authority, HELB, and MSMEs (Hustler Fund).
The phone-based app is set to make the services to be easily available for smartphone users.
On Jamhuri Day last year, Ruto directed that at least 5,000 services be digitised and made available on the e-Citizen platform.
Some of the objectives of the directive are to enhance service delivery by creating convenience and ease of access to services.
Among other objectives is the creation of employment by incubating innovations and projects whose funding is enabled by more revenue collection.
