Shock swept through the Marimanti area of Tharaka Nithi County after a four-month-old baby girl was found abandoned outside a resident’s home near Nyangumi Stadium. The baby was discovered on Wednesday night and has since been placed in the care of social welfare officials while authorities initiate investigations.

Laurencia Kinoti, the area manager, recounted how a resident alerted her after finding the child. “The baby had light clothes, and it was cold outside. She had been bitten by mosquitoes. I reported the situation to the OCS, and we took the baby to the hospital, where we were informed that she was in stable condition, aside from a cough due to exposure to the cold,” Kinoti said.

Local resident Pascalina Kagendo expressed her concern for the baby, stating, “The baby has been crying. She needs milk and care. We don’t know what we will do as we wait for the court to decide what will happen next.” She added, “I would like to urge mothers not to abandon their children, regardless of their circumstances.”
