An 80-year-old woman was burnt beyond recognition after her house caught fire at Uyoma ‘B’ village in Komolo sub-location within Siaya County on Wednesday morning.

The granny, who has been identified as Wilfrida Aoko Mayende, is said to have been completely burnt with only her skull and a few bones left.

According to Komolo sub-location Assistant Chief Felix Orwenyo, neighbors discovered the fire on Wednesday morning when it had already engulfed the house with the granny inside.

He stated that he received the information from the village elder that the granny’s house was up in flames, after which they rushed to the scene together with the police and found that the roof had already collapsed on the elderly woman.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, Mr. Orwenyo said that the police removed the granny’s remains and took them to Siaya County Referral Hospital mortuary.

The administrator added that they only managed to find her skull and a few bones of her chest since she was burnt beyond recognition.

He said that even though it was not easy to ascertain what could have caused the fire, they suspect it was caused by a tin lamp that the deceased has been using.
