M.I.A. has responded after being removed from Kid Cudi’s tour, urging critics to avoid fueling division and to think independently.
In a message shared on X, the singer defended herself following backlash over comments made during a recent performance. She said she is not eligible to vote in the United States and questioned criticism directed at her, noting that millions of Latino voters supported Donald Trump.
She wrote that people should “stop dividing” others and instead focus on unity, adding that she is “praying for more awareness and unity.”
The controversy stems from a performance at the Dos Equis Pavilion in Dallas, where M.I.A. was booed by sections of the crowd after remarks reportedly related to immigration. Some audience members claimed she used the term “illegal,” which drew a negative reaction.
She later attempted to clarify her comments on stage, saying she and her team were “also illegal,” but the response from the crowd had already shifted.
Following the incident, Kid Cudi announced that M.I.A. had been removed from The Rebel Ragers Tour. In a statement on social media, he said he had warned her beforehand and expressed disappointment, stating he would not continue working with someone who was upsetting fans.
