Sky Victor, the teenage daughter of the late Kenyan gospel singer Betty Bayo, moved fans with an emotional message shared on Facebook.
In the post on Monday, October 19, Sky penned a simple but heartbreaking plea to her late mother: “Come back, mum.”
Why Sky’s video was emotional
The post accompanied a video of Sky, her younger brother Danny, and their mother during what appeared to be a family outing at an indoor venue decorated with gold chairs and LED ceiling lights.
The clip offered a warm, ordinary glimpse of a mother and her children together, making the caption all the more painful to read.
Betty died in November 2025 at Kenyatta National Hospital, with the family initially disclosing that she had succumbed to leukaemia.
Her passing sent shockwaves through Kenya’s gospel music community. Sky, who was only 13 years old at the time, had previously opened up about the harrowing final moments she shared with her mother.

What happened to Betty Bayo?
According to Sky’s own account, Betty’s illness started with what seemed like mild headaches before her condition deteriorated rapidly.
Doctors are said to have confirmed the leukaemia diagnosis only days before she passed away. Sky also recalled how gospel singer Shiru wa GP fetched her from school and took her to KNH, and how she forced her way into an ambulance to see her mother, who was connected to medical tubes.
Betty’s mother later raised concerns about the circumstances surrounding the singer’s death and burial, and the family reportedly petitioned the Director of Public Prosecutions to facilitate an independent post-mortem examination to establish the exact cause of death.
The mother-daughter relationship between Betty and Sky was well-documented on Sky’s YouTube channel, where the two regularly shared warm, candid moments.
Their videos attracted a loyal following, and Betty was widely seen as more than just a parent to Sky, she was a companion and friend.
Following Betty’s death, Sky’s biological father, Pastor Victor Kanyari, stepped forward to comfort her publicly and pledged to take responsibility for raising both Sky and Danny.
