Prof. Phillip Raburu, the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Planning, Research and Extension at the University of Eldoret, died on Monday, September 28, 2026, sending a wave of grief through the institution’s staff, management and student body.
The University of Eldoret Students Forum broke the news on Facebook, describing the morning of his passing as a dark one for the entire university community.
In the announcement, the student forum painted a picture of a leader who went well beyond the demands of his administrative role.

Students remembered Prof. Raburu not simply as a senior official but as a mentor and a father figure whose influence extended into the personal and academic lives of those he guided.
“Prof. Raburu was not just a leader in our University — he was a mentor, a father figure, and a true servant of knowledge,” the forum wrote. “His dedication to research, innovation and student growth will never be forgotten.”
As Deputy Vice Chancellor, Prof. Raburu held one of the most strategic positions at the university, overseeing planning, research and extension services — areas central to the institution’s academic and development agenda.

On behalf of the student fraternity, the forum extended its condolences to Prof. Raburu’s family, the university’s management and its members of staff, as well as fellow students.
“You left a legacy,” the forum added. “Rest Easy, Prof. You fought a good fight, and your legacy will live on.”
The circumstances surrounding his death had not been publicly disclosed at the time of the announcement.
