A pupil at Jehovah Jireh School in Njiru, Kasarani made headlines this week after delivering a remarkably composed speech at a school event on Tuesday, 22 September, boldly addressing Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja through the media cameras present.
The event was organised around a uniform handover, with Nominated Senator Hon. Millicent Omanga, popularly known as Mama Miradi, delivering on a promise she had made to the school.
Popular media personality Obinna was also in attendance, invited by Omanga to witness the handover and interact with the pupils.
Microphone in hand, the young student launched into a surprisingly polished and structured appeal. He thanked Omanga for fulfilling her promise on uniforms, welcomed Obinna to what he called “Kanairo,” and even used the moment to request a public address system for the school, pointing out that the equipment currently used was hired and that the money spent on it could go elsewhere.
His most urgent message, however, was directed squarely at Governor Sakaja. The pupil explained that the school has a borehole but lacks a solar panel pumping system to draw water from it.
Without that system, children have no clean drinking water at school and no water for preparing their lunch meals.
He noted that the solution would cost approximately KSh 200,000, well under half a million shillings.
“To our Governor, Honorable Sakaja, we are asking if you could please help us with water issues in Jehovah Jireh,” he said, visibly aware of the cameras around him. The student also added, with a wink of ambition:
“In future, I want to be a journalist and I would need a microphone.”
After the event, Obinna shared footage from the visit on Instagram, noting that while the day began with dancing and laughter, the reality the teachers and children described left him with a heavy heart.
