Food influencer and YouTuber Sueh Owino has built something truly special in rural Kenya, and her followers are taking notice.
On Wednesday, October 28, she shared a video documenting an afternoon at her village homestead, offering fans a rare look at a lifestyle that blends traditional African architecture with thoughtful, modern living.

The land was gifted to her by her husband and the two have been developing it steadily using natural and locally sourced materials as part of a broader commitment to sustainable, slow living.
The centrepiece of the homestead is a mud house with earthen walls finished in a plaster mixture of red soil, sand, water, and rice straw.
The combination creates naturally breathable walls that help regulate temperature, a quality prized in traditional Kenyan construction.
The exterior carries warm reddish-brown tones, complemented by a concrete plinth at the base, a thick makuti (thatched) roof, small wooden-framed windows, and solid wooden plank doors. Inside, the earthen floors have been treated to be waterproof and easy to mop, combining old-world charm with everyday practicality.
Separate from the main house is a dedicated outdoor kitchen built from masonry, stone, and natural supports including tree trunks.
It is designed for traditional wood-fired cooking and comes equipped with running water taps, outdoor washing and preparation areas, and a rebuilt outdoor stove.
Surrounding the structures is a productive kitchen garden with raised vegetable beds growing leafy greens and other produce.

The couple is also developing a gazebo, outbuildings, and areas for poultry as the homestead continues to take shape.
Sueh was seen working in the compound dressed in a traditional striped outfit, very much at home amid the natural setting.
The video drew warm responses from fans who were moved by the simplicity and intentionality of what she is creating.
