A man facing charges of preparation to commit a felony on Thursday shocked court users at the Mombasa Law Courts when he knelt and began praying.
Ibrahim Juma requested the court orderly manning the courtroom for permission to pray before he was ushered into Mombasa senior resident magistrate David Odhiambos’s courtroom.
He requested permission from the court orderly moments after his name was called out for plea-taking.
“Allow me to pray before you take me in please allow me just a minute,” he pleaded.
The officer, who seemed equally shocked, nodded his head an indication that he had permitted him to go on.
Prayer time
As he went on with his supplications court orderlies kept guard, waiting patiently for him to finish before he was ushered into the courtroom to answer to charges of intent to commit a felony of abducting Amina Mohammed.
Moments later after finishing his prayers he composed himself and was ushered into the courtroom by the court orderly where he pleaded not guilty to charges of abduction.
The charges read that on March 20 this year at around 8:00 pm in areas of Noor Changamwe sub-county within Mombasa he was found wearing a face mask and a cape with intent to commit a felony of abducting Mohammed.
He was released on a bond of Ksh500,000 with one similar surety.
His case will mentioned on April 16, 2024, for pre-trial.
