A robbery suspect who was seen on surveillance footage robbing a foreigner along Nairobi’s Ngong Road has been apprehended.
In a statement issued by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Wednesday, Samuel Ndungo Waweru was apprehended following a manhunt launched after the robbery.
DCI added that they later discovered that Waweru is part of a gang terrorizing residents in Nairobi and is based around MOGAS Petrol Station along Jogoo Rd.
“Swinging into action, the DCI deployed a team of detectives to pursue what was evidently a well-coordinated gang that targeted pedestrians on the walk ways,” said DCI.
In the now-viral CCTV footage, about 4 boda bodas, each with three occupants, were seen passing by three foreigners on June 1 at the Ngong Road-Jamhuri junction near the Brew Bistro lounge.
Another two boda bodas slowed down while approaching the foreigners, and a man, now identified as Waweru, was seen sneaking behind the trio before snatching one of their sling bags and running towards one of their escape motorbikes.
The distraught foreigners were joined by three colleagues seconds later as the suspects sped away.
DCI noted that Waweru has identified his accomplices and a manhunt has been launched to apprehend them.
