Vihiga Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association is considering punitive actions including arrest and prosecution of teachers who involve non-students in school games, committee vice secretary Robert Keere has said.

Kere says it would be unfair for the government to allocate activity monies only for some rogue sports teachers to field villagers for the sporting activities at the expense of students.

“Players aged 20 years and below are the only ones eligible to participate in school games yet in other places you will find teachers procuring services of non-students in school games denying children an opportunity to benefit from sporting activities meant for them,” Kere said.

“The fact that Ebwali lifted the KSSSA title after a complaint was successfully launched against a school that had purportedly qualified to represent Western that year is evidence that if sanity is restored in school competitions, any school stands a chance of performing well,” he added.

Apart from banning schools that flout sporting rules, Mr. Kere has intimated to us that the committee may this year consider involving police officers to arrest teachers whose teams will be found to have gone against the school sporting norms and prefer any charges against the culprits.

“It beats logic for activity fees to be allocated for students’ sports only for the money to benefit ineligible players. In this year’s competitions we have agreed that those fond of denying students their rightful sporting right will be arrested to serve as the example,” Kere stated amidst preparations for term one secondary school games 2024 edition.
