Daniel Koikai, the father of the late Mary Njambi Koikai, affectionately known as Njambi ‘Jahmby’ Koikai, has reflected on the precious final moments he shared with his beloved daughter.
In a funeral program obtained by the Star, Koikai shared intimate details about his relationship with Njambi, highlighting the highs and lows they experienced together. He revealed that due to his work commitments abroad, he was only able to reconnect with Njambi during her high school years, missing out on much of her childhood.
Despite the challenges of being separated for much of her early life, Koikai cherished the time they spent together, acknowledging the complexity of their relationship which encompassed both joyful and difficult moments.
“When times were good, we would go shopping and have lunch at some restaurants in the city, and you enjoyed meeting me very much. I deeply miss the good times we shared.
“During the bad times, we would go days or months without talking, something I blame myself for and will always regret as I’ve lost the chance to make things right with you,” Koikai wrote.
The businessman further shared a touching message sent by his daughter just a day before her passing. Despite being hospitalized at the time, Njambi took a moment to express her heartfelt gratitude to her father.
In her message, she conveyed her appreciation for his love and support, and she also made a request for a few specific items she hoped he could bring her.
“Hi Dad, I hope you got home safely. So I would need red berry orange water from Del Monte and fresh orange and passion fruit juice. The doctors are here, so I’ll have to go and we’ll talk tomorrow. It was good to see you and reconnect,” Njambi’s message to her father read.
Koikai also spoke about a special message his daughter gave him and his co-parent, Ms. Stella Wambui, the night she passed away.
The late Njambi told her parents about unity and appreciating her father’s presence.
“In the hospital near your bed with your mother, the night you left us, you told me that we are one blood and you were happy I came. We reconnected and I hope we will reconnect again one day,” Koikai revealed.
Njambi’s father wished for his daughter’s soul to rest in eternal peace.
