The investigation into the murder of Willis Ayieko, a Human Resource manager at Wells Fargo, reveals concerning details about the circumstances leading to his tragic death. Detectives discovered that while Ayieko’s vehicle was equipped with a dash camera, it was either switched off or disabled on the night of Friday, October 18, indicating that his captors were likely aware of the camera and took steps to conceal their identities.

Two suspects were seen abandoning Ayieko’s car in Sabatia, near where his body was later found. They wore caps to hide their faces and appeared to feign a mechanical issue with the vehicle by opening its bonnet before leaving the scene with a bag containing Ayieko’s personal belongings and valuables.

Eyewitness accounts indicate that Ayieko had been at a funeral vigil in Gem, Siaya County, with friends who suggested they leave in a convoy. However, he chose to leave ahead of them, marking the last time he was seen alive. After his disappearance, police noted that his mobile phone was activated intermittently until Sunday, October 20, but it remains unclear who had possession of it during that time.

Authorities are also probing whether Ayieko’s bank accounts were accessed in the period leading up to or during his disappearance. As part of the investigation, detectives plan to interview his colleagues to gather more information.

While the motive behind Ayieko’s murder has yet to be determined, officials suspect it may be linked to a personal vendetta. Notably, Ayieko was a licensed gun owner, and his service pistol, along with 14 bullets, was among the items stolen from him. This aspect of the case suggests a premeditated and targeted attack rather than a random crime.

The body was discovered in the Mungowere stream in Yala, Siaya County on October 23 at 2pm.
The family had reported he was missing on Monday, October 21. Police said the body was decomposed when a student discovered it.

It had bruises on the face and stomach indicating it was dragged on a rough surface.
The body was half-naked and seemed to have been tortured elsewhere before being dumped at the scene.

Ayieko went missing last Friday, October 18 after attending a burial vigil event in Gem, Siaya County.
He had stayed until about 10 pm before he left the funeral never to be seen again.

His friends said Ayieko was expected to attend another event in Kakamega on Saturday, October 19, but he never arrived.
The body is lying at the Siaya mortuary pending autopsy and other investigations. The investigating team plans to revisit the places he was before he died.

His family and friends are meeting at his Kahawa Sukari residence to plan his funeral even as the probe goes on.
