Three more suspects linked to the attack on All Saints’ Cathedral on Friday, June 12, have been apprehended, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has confirmed.

The three, George Omondi Otieno, Effenburg Wanyama Khisa, and Melvin Alumasa Bwani, were trailed and separately arrested at various locations within Nairobi County.

Detectives from DCI’s headquarters and the Kilimani offices recovered a red Boxer motorcycle believed to have been used in the invasion.

“Additionally, mobile phones recovered from the suspects were also seized and secured for forensic examination to assist in the ongoing investigations,” DCI wrote in a statement on Tuesday.

The trio now joins two other suspects, earlier arrested in connection with the incident and are undergoing processing pending arraignment.

During the invasion, as seen on CCTV footage, chaos began at the church’s entrance, where goons confronted security guards and forced their way onto the church grounds to disrupt a budget review meeting.

One victim was overpowered and robbed while attempting to flee to the third floor. Another participant was cornered as police officers scrambled to intervene.

One of the men allegedly hired to disrupt the meeting revealed to Citizen TV that they were allegedly financed by a Member of Parliament and executed the invasion with the support of plain-clothes police officers.

The man narrated how he and others were recruited under the impression they would disrupt a political meeting associated with opposition figure Rigathi Gachagua, but the target changed upon arriving in the CBD.

He narrated how they were promised Ksh,2,000 per person, with each man instructed to source a motorcycle and ride in pairs.

Meanwhile, the National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK) has condemned the incident, calling on the Inspector General of Police to ensure that the suspects are arrested and prosecuted.

DCI has intimated that officers are pursuing more leads into the case to apprehend all suspects who are still at large.
