Three pupils have been confirmed dead after a school bus overturned along Gitugi- Murang’a Town road on Saturday evening.

The accident that involved a school bus belonging to Maadili school kindergarten from Thika town in Kiambu county occurred around 6 pm as they were travelling from Nyeri county

According to Murang’a county police commander Kainga Mathiu, the bus had 35 pupils, two drivers and three teachers at the time of the accident.

Kainga confirmed that one pupil died at the scene while two others perished as they were undergoing treatment at Murang’a Level Five Hospital.

Two pupils who suffered serious injuries are currently in the hospital’s ICU while the rest, including the teachers and drivers, are being tended to.

The bus was ferrying the pupils from a scouts’ event in Nyeri when the accident occurred.

The notorious spot, just a few kilometres from Murang’a town, has a sharp corner and has seen several motorists roll off the road in the last few months.
