The digital battle for East African musical supremacy has reached a new fever pitch, and the results are in: Tanzania is officially the king of the “view.”

As of April 2026, Tanzanian artistes continue to dominate the YouTube charts in East Africa, led by Diamond Platnumz, who remains the most viewed and subscribed musician in the region.

The Wasafi Classic Baby (WCB) mogul has extended his lead, cementing his status as a continental powerhouse with a total view count now exceeding the 2.5 billion mark.

The data reveals a stark regional divide, with Tanzanian ‘Bongo Flava’ artistes occupying the majority of the top spots, leaving Kenyan and Ugandan stars to play catch-up in the digital race.

Based on the latest cumulative channel data for April 2026, here are the musicians leading the pack:

1. Diamond Platnumz (Tanzania): ~3.5 billion views

2. Rayvanny (Tanzania): ~1.8 billion views

3. Harmonize (Tanzania): ~1.47 billion views

4. Zuchu (Tanzania): ~1.14 billion views

5. Mbosso (Tanzania): ~1.1 billion views

6. Eddy Kenzo (Uganda): ~842 million views

7. Marioo (Tanzania): ~575 million views

The ‘Wasafi’ effect

The influence of Diamond Platnumz’s Wasafi label cannot be overstated. All of the top five artistes, Diamond, Rayvanny, Harmonize, Zuchu and Mbosso, either currently belong to or originated from the WCB stable.

Zuchu, in particular, has made history as the most viewed female artiste in the region, proving that the label’s marketing machine is still the most effective in Africa.

While Kenya’s Otile Brown maintains a respectable presence, he face stiff competition from the sheer volume of content produced in Dar es Salaam.

Uganda’s Eddy Kenzo remains the sole representative for his country in the top ten, relying on a massive international following built over the last decade.

Industry experts suggest that Tanzanian artistes have been more aggressive in shifting their focus to digital monetisation.

With Diamond Platnumz showing no signs of slowing down and his sub-label stars racking up millions of hits within hours of release, the Tanzanian dominance of the YouTube charts looks set to continue well into the 2030s.
