Aston Villa have terminated the contract of Philippe Coutinho.

The two parties decided to go their separate ways after Coutinho’s loan spell with Al Duhail in Qatar ended.

However, manager Unai Emery has made it clear that the Brazilian is not part of his plans.

Coutinho has two years left on his deal but will now leave for free.

The 32-year-old is believed to be close to a return to his home country with Vasco da Gama.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano tweeted: “Philippe Coutinho and Aston Villa have agreed on contract termination after his loan spell in Qatar.

“Coutinho set to be available as free agent with Vasco da Gama working on his return — as @brunoandrd reports.”
