Omondi, who himself has been leading his own version of protests, dubbed ‘Unga Movement’, has now come out to support Raila Odinga’s call for mass protests two days a week only adding that the protests should infact be done every day for the next fourteen days.
“Tunaambia Raila, tafadhali fanya maandamano ikuwe Monday to Monday. Tufunge kila siku ikuwe holiday. Serikali ikose pesa vile waKenya wamekosa pesa,” he said.
“Nataka tushikane sisi wote kama wakenya. Tuandamane sisi wote, tukose pesa sisi wote. Wanasema hakuna pesa na juzi wamenunua magari ya 800 million,” Eric protested.
The comedian made the comments shortly after he helped secure the release of 22 young men held at the Nairobi West Male prison.
While not divulging the crimes the young men had been arrested for, Eric only said that they had been locked up for ‘trying to fend for their families’.
“Today we released 22 men from Nairobi West Men’s Prison (we will release more). These were young men whose only crime was fending for their families. We need to change a lot. Na wameenda home na Unga mbili mbili,” Eric wrote on Instagram.
The self-ordained ‘President of Comedy’ was first arrested on February 21, alongside 17 others, while leading a protest against the cost of living. On March 1, he would be arrested yet again while distributing unga to Kenyans at City Stadium.
The case relating to the first arrest has now been pushed to May.
