Two families in Bomet County are seeking answers from the government on the whereabouts of their kin.
The two men Kevin Kiplangat alias Elvis and Dominic Kipng’eno alias Muge were abducted by armed men believed to be police officers while driving along Mahi Mahiu Road on December 7, 2024.
Families say efforts to trace the missing persons have proved futile and their whereabouts remain unknown for the last five days.
Witnesses say a Subaru motor vehicle which had trailed the Prado and which had armed men, fired at the vehicle and deflated it.
The Prado veered off the road and it was at that point that the occupants were abducted by hooded armed men. Three victims were abducted; Kiplangat, Kipng’eno and a female adult.
Soon after, their mobile phones were switched off as police towed the Prado to Lari Police Station. The reasons for their abduction remain unclear even as families of victims demand answers from the state on their whereabouts.
The families say they were headed to their hometown in Mulot, Bomet County.
A quick online search exposes a rooted crime history of Kiplangat who is among the missing persons. He was once arrested in February 2024 as DCI detectives conducted an operation targeting Sim-swap fraudsters in the county.
During the same period, Kiplangat and others were arraigned at Kericho Law Courts to face robbery with violence charges.
It is not yet clear, whether their abduction is linked to a wide web of online fraudsters and fraudulent activities undertaken by online scammers in the cyber world.
Police probing the matter said investigations into their mysterious abduction are ongoing.
